So far as has yet been discovered, it seems to be barren of precious ores. The soil is what may very properly be called a rich loam, and beneath its surface is to be found, in different localities various qualities of stone in abundance and suitable for all purposes. Its surface is undulating but not so much so as to make it undesirable for agricultural purposes. It contains an area of some 24 square miles, and its acreage 15,360 of as good land as any of Adam’s progeny need ask for. Its greatest length is something less than 6 miles, and width about 4 1/2 miles. It is bounded as follows – on the north by Upper Merion and the River Schuylkill, south by Philadelphia, east by the Schuylkill and west by Delaware County.
